The Raven

The poem of the raven a tragic tale written by the famous Edgar Allan Poe the story is about a man who is dealing with a great lost in his life, because of the death of the women he loved called Leonore then one night he was laying in his cabin when he heard a tapping sound on the door at first he thought it was his neighbors but when he called out to the cause of this sound no reply was uttered  after the silence he went to his study to read an old book trying to distract himself, but he heard the tapping once again.
Armed with bravery he opened the door and looked up and saw a raven perch on his cabins roof he proceeded to smile to the creature as it reassembled the man’s emotional state depressed, sad, alone. He proceeded to ask the bird what was he doing here to which the animal replied nevermore he continued to ask questions to the black bird but he only replied one word nevermore the more that word was uttered the more the man feel into insanity the one thought tearing his mind apart was that of his beloved leonore, eventually the man asked the bird if it was leonore but he only replied nevermore he proceeded to ask more and more about leonore but the raven only said nevermore as the night came to a closing the raven left leaving behind on the cabins floor an insane broken man.

Positive aspects of the story: for me I find positive aspect in the story’s realism and in the authors way of using a tragedy to explain how fragile the human mind can be, it’s a masterpiece the way he describes the man slowly losing his sanity due to the loss of the love of his life this is also a positive aspect as he uses love as a double edge sword which arguably it is but that is a rather subjective term.

Negative aspects of the story: in the negative aspects is as I said love is a double edge sword and as such I don’t completely like that he used love in the way he did I would have preferred that he used it in a less addictive manner as love in this story or poem sorry is more similar to an addiction that the speaker has with the woman leonore but I understand why he did it because he wanted to show how one bad day can turn anyone insane, no as another positive aspect I would say that the only flaw I could find is that he didn’t write more cause the poem was really good truly a masterpiece of literature.

The authors point of view: now if you are an educated person you must be wondering why must all of the authors stories be so similar well that’s an excellent question, allow me to answer it.
Edgar Allan Poe stories are well known for its gothic style of writing a very dark and mysterious theme and if you analyses other story’s like for example the black cat or the pit and the pendulum you would notice that Edgar makes a lot of references about death or any number of tragic events
Also Poe wrote the raven at a time where he also was struck by a tragedy at the time that he wrote this story her cousin had passed and it is believed that it was an inspiration if not a direct reason for him to write what he felt while dealing with that grief that consumed him and how he was tormented night after night with the thought that the person he cared about was gone and no matter what he did she was not coming back.

Self reliance

and the values
of

pacience and caring

The beauty of self-reliance lies in its way to send a rather simple yet transcendent message which is that live doesn’t need all these fancy complicated conformities to live happily one can live happily with the basic yet little things in life this is also compared to two values caring and patience.

Patience is displayed from the very beginning as the author describes his experience of leaving everything he had to live life happily living only with what’s absolutely necessary or as he describes it finding the true meaning of life, he goes to great lengths he as he questions what is truly the purpose of life stating that one must be himself and not be something or someone we are not and that humans greatest mistake is to pretend to be some thing or someone we are not, he also highlights the fact that mankind has become more and more conformist with society not questioning the morality or even the fairness of the situation

Ralph Waldo Emerson also highlights the fact that mankind has stopped questioning the morality and even the rules of society just being conformist towards the current situation.
Another important point of the story of self-reliance is that waldo also says that man’s emotion is something passenger like the wind they come and go but he goes ahead and question why its relevant he also displays a very accurate quote of what is good and evil he states that good and evil are merely names but very rarely does it translate to something concreate or even an action and I must say that I agree no matter how you put it the line between good and evil is often blur black and white become gray so easily.

And displays caring since the author displays a great deal of care towards human kind and showing his preoccupation towards the disgusting conformism that mankind has adopted in the last century and that one must be unconformity to find what’s wrong with society ask questions, question the establish law, ask yourself how morally grey is our society.
He also displays a sad but accurate statement in which he declares that all the great thinkers or philosophers had been greatly misunderstood since their ideas to change society were ruined purely due to ignorance thanks to the conformism of the now a day society or even the one from their time. Socrates, Jesus Aristotle, Plato four of the greatest thinker’s inventors and philosophers and all suffered the same unfortunate fate misunderstood by society and where branded outcasts and looked down upon just cause of their different ways of thinking
But definitely the most important if not my favorite point the story tries to prove is that we have lost most of our self-trust since we are afraid of not fitting into society since according to them if you are not like the rest you are not normal, honestly I couldn’t agree more since this is society’s greatest problem is that we try to do anything to fit in even if we know we normally wouldn’t do those sort of things
And that we have also focused too much on frivolous material things that are inconcecuencial to life its self. The author displays how much he cares and preoccupies for society as a hole and he worries because he sees that we have become conformist and have stopped caring for creating a truly open and free society and he displays patience in the sense that he actually took the time to actually write about what he thinks and actually are the greatest flaws of modern day society.
