The Raven

The poem of the raven a tragic tale written by the famous Edgar Allan Poe the story is about a man who is dealing with a great lost in his life, because of the death of the women he loved called Leonore then one night he was laying in his cabin when he heard a tapping sound on the door at first he thought it was his neighbors but when he called out to the cause of this sound no reply was uttered  after the silence he went to his study to read an old book trying to distract himself, but he heard the tapping once again.
Armed with bravery he opened the door and looked up and saw a raven perch on his cabins roof he proceeded to smile to the creature as it reassembled the man’s emotional state depressed, sad, alone. He proceeded to ask the bird what was he doing here to which the animal replied nevermore he continued to ask questions to the black bird but he only replied one word nevermore the more that word was uttered the more the man feel into insanity the one thought tearing his mind apart was that of his beloved leonore, eventually the man asked the bird if it was leonore but he only replied nevermore he proceeded to ask more and more about leonore but the raven only said nevermore as the night came to a closing the raven left leaving behind on the cabins floor an insane broken man.

Positive aspects of the story: for me I find positive aspect in the story’s realism and in the authors way of using a tragedy to explain how fragile the human mind can be, it’s a masterpiece the way he describes the man slowly losing his sanity due to the loss of the love of his life this is also a positive aspect as he uses love as a double edge sword which arguably it is but that is a rather subjective term.

Negative aspects of the story: in the negative aspects is as I said love is a double edge sword and as such I don’t completely like that he used love in the way he did I would have preferred that he used it in a less addictive manner as love in this story or poem sorry is more similar to an addiction that the speaker has with the woman leonore but I understand why he did it because he wanted to show how one bad day can turn anyone insane, no as another positive aspect I would say that the only flaw I could find is that he didn’t write more cause the poem was really good truly a masterpiece of literature.

The authors point of view: now if you are an educated person you must be wondering why must all of the authors stories be so similar well that’s an excellent question, allow me to answer it.
Edgar Allan Poe stories are well known for its gothic style of writing a very dark and mysterious theme and if you analyses other story’s like for example the black cat or the pit and the pendulum you would notice that Edgar makes a lot of references about death or any number of tragic events
Also Poe wrote the raven at a time where he also was struck by a tragedy at the time that he wrote this story her cousin had passed and it is believed that it was an inspiration if not a direct reason for him to write what he felt while dealing with that grief that consumed him and how he was tormented night after night with the thought that the person he cared about was gone and no matter what he did she was not coming back.
